About the service
How accurate is the local data on your pages?
Every figure is measured from a named public source and can be checked against it — each area page links to the FEMA map and Census profile for that area. Two limits worth knowing: the figures are averages across the developed part of an area rather than readings at your address, and where a source has no answer we publish nothing rather than an estimate. Where we know a figure is unresolved, the page says so outright.
How does SoakedHome work?
We're a connection service. When you call, we match you with a local water emergency specialist who covers your area. We don't do the work ourselves, and the specialist confirms their own arrival time with you. Specialists pay us for referrals; there is no fee to you for the connection.
What is water mitigation, and how is it different from restoration?
Mitigation is the emergency part: stopping the water, extracting it and drying the structure so the damage does not grow. Restoration is the repair afterwards: replacing drywall, flooring and finishes. Many companies do both, and insurers often treat them as two stages of one claim.
What don't you do?
We don't carry out the work — we are a connection service, and we have no premises in the areas we cover. We don't add any charge on top of what the specialist quotes you. We don't publish reviews we haven't earned, invent local data where a source has none, or claim a local office we don't have. If we can't help with something, we would rather tell you than take the request anyway.
I'm not sure which service I need. What should I do?
Call and describe what you're seeing — that is usually enough to place it. It also matters which one it is: a sewered property and an unsewered one have genuinely different failure modes, which is why our area pages only show the services that actually apply there. If you're on a cesspool, a 'sewage backup' is almost certainly a cesspool problem, and the trades are different.
Why do you publish flood and groundwater data instead of just a phone number?
Because most of what decides a household's water risk is measurable, public, and almost never put in front of the homeowner — how deep the water table sits, whether the street is sewered, how much of the developed land is in a mapped flood zone. We measure it for every area we cover from USGS, FEMA, Census, EPA and county sources, and publish it with the method and the known limits. It is also the honest answer to why our pages differ town to town: they differ because the measurements do.
Response time
Is this an emergency service? What if it's dangerous right now?
We are not an emergency service and we are not a substitute for one. If there is a risk to life, an electrical hazard in standing water, a gas smell, or a structural collapse risk, call 911 first. If a storm evacuation has been ordered for your zone, follow it — no equipment and no specialist is worth staying for. Call us once the situation is safe.
How quickly will someone arrive after I call?
Once we connect you with a local specialist, they arrange a time to come out with you directly. Response times vary by provider, location, and time of day.
Coverage
Which areas of Suffolk County do you cover?
We cover most of Suffolk County, including Smithtown, Ronkonkoma, Bay Shore, Huntington and more, and our areas page lists every area we cover. If you're not sure whether we serve your area, call and say where you are.
What if my area isn't listed?
A handful of places in Suffolk County are deliberately outside our coverage — a university campus, a few small communities such as Captree and Dering Harbor, the Fire Island communities, and Fishers Island, which is reached by ferry from Connecticut. They're listed with the reason on our areas page. If you're in one of them, you can still call; whether a specialist covers your address depends on where it is.
Cost
Is there a fee to use SoakedHome?
There's no fee to use our connection service. The specialist we connect you with will provide their own pricing directly. We never add charges on top of what the specialist quotes you. When we connect you, the specialist pays us a referral fee.
Provider network
Who are the specialists you connect me with?
We are a connection service, not a contractor: the specialist who answers is an independent local business, not our employee. We route your call to someone who covers your area and handles that kind of work. They set their own price and their own arrival time, and confirm both with you directly — there is no fee to you for the connection. Before any work starts, ask for their license number and a written price. Any established trade will give you both, and Suffolk County's Department of Labor, Licensing & Consumer Affairs lets you check a home-improvement license yourself (Southampton, East Hampton and Shelter Island license their own).
Where our figures come from
If your question is about where a figure on one of our area pages came from, how we measure this data answers it in detail, and the Suffolk County page lists the sources and the things we know are unresolved. We cover 155 areas across Suffolk County, NY.
